Motherhood is the mother of all paradoxes, especially when it comes to our worth to society. On one end, we're raising human beings; the future of tomorrow is literally in our hands. On the other, we're doing an unskilled “woman’s job.” Admittedly, it took me some time and several mental breakdowns, to finally realize how wrong our inherited cultural attitudes all are.
Outstanding article, Vitoria!
Profound , powerful, illuminating, actionable - big fan of your work. Your writing seems so personal and effecting and really brings out the angst that am sure many women feel. Your writing is so lucid, it's almost poetic! Excellent research with perfect examples - bookmarking this for future referral.
Somewhat tangentially, as outlined in Caroline Perez's excellent "Invisible Women", women do 75% of the global unpaid work. Women have always worked (paid and unpaid) but the traditional workplace hasn’t worked for women. It is tailored to an unencumbered worker, i.e., the male default. Because seeing humans as men is the default.
I'd appreciate your feedback on my article as I think it's another data-driven companion piece to your wonderful writing, do let me know what you think!
